Meet Mark Schwemer

Candidate for Hardin County Auditor

Mark was born and raised in Hardin County and currently lives with his wife, Paula, and their dog Leia, in Cessna Township. Their son Gage is a graduate of Rhodes State College and currently lives in Findlay, Ohio. Their son Nash, is a graduate of Ohio Northern University and currently lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Fiscal Experience

The County Auditor serves as the chief fiscal officer for the county. Mark has an extensive history of providing sound fiscal advice and guidance through his career and service to the community.  His experience includes fiscal oversight as the president of multiple organizations, sitting on the board of directors of state-wide organizations, acting as a fiduciary in probate proceedings, and providing legal advice to the villages where he acts as their attorney.

Most recently, Mark was named to the Board of Directors of the United Soccer Coaches association which is a nationwide organization of soccer coaches and operates with a multi-million dollar annual budget.

Service to the Community

Mark has spent years giving back to the community through active involvement in local, state, and national organizations dedicated to youth development, education, and civic engagement. Whether mentoring young athletes, volunteering his time to strengthen community programs, or supporting initiatives that bring neighbors together, Mark believes that strong communities are built by people who step up and serve.

Mark was instrumental in founding the Kenton Soccer Association to fill the void created when the YMCA decided to stop offering organized soccer to youths from 9 to 15 years old.

Mark also served on the Hardin County Extension Advisory Committe and helped to guide Extension through a reorganization when the County stopped funding Extension and a levy was presented to the voters of the County.

Ethics and Integrity

Mark’s career has been guided by a clear and consistent commitment to ethics, accountability, and respect for others. His service on the United Soccer Coaches Ethics Board reflects the trust placed in him to help uphold the highest standards of conduct in athletics and leadership. As a coach, Mark emphasized character just as strongly as competition, building teams that were repeatedly recognized with sportsmanship and ethics awards—proof of a culture rooted in fairness, discipline, and mutual respect.

These principles reflect Mark’s approach to public service. He believes that integrity is not optional in leadership—it is essential. Whether on the field or in the community, Mark has shown that doing what is right, even when it is difficult, is the foundation of earning and keeping the public’s trust.

Committed to our youth

Much of Mark’s focus on giving back to the community has been focused on providing support for our youth in the pursuit of their dreams. As President of the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association, Mark began a scholarship program which provides funds to senior soccer players as they pursue further education after high school. Mark has also had the honor of presenting scholarships each year to Kenton High School students in honor of the KHS class of 1993 and the late Chuck Merold.

I have spent my life in service to the residents of Hardin County and I could think of nothing better than to continue to serve them as the County Auditor.
